1953 Franklin Half Dollar

1953-S Franklin Half Dollar

The 1953 Franklin Half Dollar showed a decline from the mintage levels of the prior year. Once again, coins were produced at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. A proof version of the coin was also struck for inclusion in government issued proof sets.

The 1953-S Franklin Half Dollar is a major conditional rarity. Nearly all coins exhibit very weakly strikes and are rarely found with Full Bell Lines on the reverse of the coin. The handful of third party graded 1953-S Franklin Halves in gem or higher with Full Bell Lines have sold for tens of thousands of dollars.
